Continuing the search for the "soul of the city. The idea is to go deeper into analogies for the organic identity of the city. Inner City is an audio visual, interactive, internet art, experience. The micro city becomes an organic networks of grids and diagrams. Networks of information technology, are contrasted with organic networks and city networks. In some areas city cells mutate and grow move around the screen and birth new spaces. The form and content of this work is a visual world of the city and its structure. A visual labyrinth, a maze of circumstance. The city acts as a focus for community and as a territorial boundary to explore the world outside through virtual means.
These themes have inspired the making of the central city website.
Networks of information technology contrasted with organic networks and city networks as grids. Repetition of imagery particularly, tower blocks, maps, streets, factories and housing estates. Loss of sequential connection to the masses of information which bombards our everyday existence. The schizoid relationship to the environment and lack of spiritual grounding. The juxtaposition of urban sounds and sights. The way we move through the city and our relationship to the architectural space. A city experience consists of small unit blocks and cells which inter-relate and lock together to form the composite city identity. The city has moved from metropolis to megalopolis to the ecumenopolis. The city is everywhere, with lifeless design spreading upwards and forming a conundrum of physical objects in space. The city consists of related images and related styles from power, desire and repetition. Cities become insect colonies, spreading upwards with giant towers looming over vacant lots, and empty spaces. Viewed from above the city looks like the inside of an organic cellular structure.
Technical points. You will need shockwave for some areas and will not be able to listen to my music unless you get shockwave. You must have downloaded and installed the shockwave plug-in available from the macromedia website.
